A well contested match at Darlington Road was marred by some awful decision from the officials on Saturday.

Both sides were affected by the poor refereeing but it will be the Blues who will feel hard done to as the referee failed to spot a blatant foul on keeper Peter Jeffries which led to Bays’ equaliser in the last minute. And it was to get worse for the Bishops as deep into injury time the referee somehow missed a clear handball in the area from the former Bishop player, Brian Rowe. The referee awarded just a corner when the whole crowd, and even the Bay manager, new it was a penalty and a chance for Bishop to cause a major upset.

In the end, a draw was a fair result as both teams had many good chances, but Colin Myers will feel that this was their chance to progress as going away to Whitley Bay and coming away with a result is a tall order for many teams…

Frustration at Darlington Road

West Auckland 0 – 3 Whitley Bay
Darlington Road
24/08/2010

There was utter frustration at Darlington Road on Tuesday night as West Auckland failed to convert their dominance into goals. West were the better side throughout the game and played some really attractive football. Wear Radio man of the match, Adam Nicholls, had a superb game and really caused the Bay back four trouble. But it was Bay who came away with the spoils, taking their chances and rounding it of with a beautiful 20 yard volley which smashed into the top corner of Mark Bells goal.
